Leachate suction pump
An important group engaged in the environmental sector, manages a landfill of solid non-hazardous, leachate or percolate is one of products deriving from the accumulation. The leachate is generated in a natural way by the crossing of rainfall through the layer of waste present in landfills, the result is a fluid from the characteristics extremely polluting, and therefore must be picked up and treated on site by means of a appropriate purification process .
There are different systems for leachate suction, some bore hole submersible pumps inserted in appropriate wells, other systems provide surface self-priming peristaltic pumps able to aspirate the fluid from the surface. The landfill was designed considering not to apply submersible pumps type to avoid maintenance substantial costs in failure or malfunction. In previous experiences it is noticed that whenever it is necessary the maintenance of the submersed pump, it is necessary to remove virtually all installation, raising the pump through its pipe by expensive equipment and specialized personnel.
Leachate has a chemical aggressiveness of a certain importance, variable over time, and is able to put out of order the submersible pumps in short times. In principle are also used for the percolate, pumps designed for clean water or with small modifications of adaptation to percolate , but that, as it was found, do not guarantee duration in time acceptable.
Maintenance and replacement operations are very expensive because they require disassembly total line in the well, as well as the use of suitable equipment such as cranes and lorries, transfers and interventions in specialised workshops with technical staff at high cost. The plant of the landfill was consequently designed for use surface peristaltic pumps, through the realisation of a crowning achievement of picking stations with negative leaf not deep over eight meters.
Peristaltic pump easy solution for percolate.
Various Peristaltic Pumps HCP 50 have been installed to suck the leachate directly from the surface. The high vacuum produced by the peristaltic pump and full compatibility of the machine to chemical aggression in addition to the total insensitivity to dry running, has allowed the achievement full both the targets, operational and economic. The individual pumping stations manitenance cost provides only the replacement of peristaltic hose (once every 2 years). The replacement takes place in the site, quickly, with no additional costs for operation (an hour) with internal staff at the management company.
The on-site maintenance occurs without remove piping but acting only and exclusively on ground surface, away from the contaminant. The management company has spoken in a very positive manner on the peristaltic pump solution adopted, and proposes the purchase of new peristaltic pump for extensions and other future projects.
