Sulphuric acid pumping .

The purpose of the application: pumping sulphuric acid and waste products.

best solutions for sulphuric acid pumpingThis company deals with the recovery of metal, plastic materials and other chemical substances for the subsequent regeneration. In a production site, there is a particular type of plant that has the aim of recovering the industrial and automotive batteries.
From the recovery cycle, will get the lead, plastics and chemicals, sulphuric acid, sodium sulfate. In one of the initial steps of the recycling process the sulphuric acid accumulated by the emptying of the batteries must be pumped. The acid is collected in tanks and is contaminated by solid substances of various types, crystal formations, particles of plastic, metallic powders, acid slurries. The result is a fluid with significant characteristics of chemical and mechanical aggression properties. The fluid must be pumped with surface pumps in order to limit any security issues, the experiences in the past with centrifugal pumps have been very disappointing, with great difficulty on priming, rapid eterioration of the sealing systems, very frequent impeller clogging, continuous machine stoppages. The company experimented the use of pneumatic diaphragm pumps, but also in this case, there were significant problems on priming and aspiration (uncertain due to wear of the valve system, in case of rupture of the membranes, it often happened that the contaminated fluid passing through the membrane deteriorated, to the air distribution device destroying it irreparably. In both cases, the centrifugal pumps and the pneumatic ones, required the complete removal of the pumps from plant for maintenance. Given that the past experiences were not certainly positive, it was not easy to convince the company to experiment a different solution with another pump not very conventional. At the end we were able to introduce into the production cycle a  HCP 50 peristaltic pump in 2010. From that moment the company no longer had problems arising from the pumping of contaminated sulfuric acid. The peristaltic pump has an operating cost of three peristaltic hoses every year, without machine stops and substantial significant costs. In the course of 2016 another peristaltic pump HCP 50 has joined the existing one for further increase potential production .

Pumps Hose Carrier for suction wastewater and sludge of metal surfaces finishing process

pump-hose-carrier hcp 5.0-varnishing sludge Aspiration of varnishing sludge.

An HCP 50 peristaltic pump is responsible for suction and transfer of sludge generated by the process of regeneration of cylinders for compressed gas in a company forming part of a large industrial group, specialized in the production and trade of gas cylinders and cylinders packs for industrial use.
One of these companies in the group,  takes care of the recovery and regeneration and varnishing of cylinders.

Between the processing steps is expected:  the washing and the remediation of the cylinders, blasting the body, the pre-treatment operations and the final finishing with the final varnishing of the product, often with custom colors. This company works thousands of cylinders each year,in steel, aluminum, with accessories or without.

The perfect pump solution for varnishing sludge:

The HCP 50 used is a medium proportions peristaltic pump ,and must recover and transfer waste water and sludge liquids deriving from the manufacturing process. Starting from the first for arrive to last working step, the variety of liquids pumped is very wide, as well as the viscosity, but the presence of the speed variator allows to the pump a perfect adaptation to different tasks. In the wastewater there are aggressive substances, solid suspensions, residual abrasive sand, various agglomerates, there is everything, in liquid form or muddy.

The machine that can do all this work is only one, the  HCP 50 peristaltic pump. With a free passage up to 50 mm in diameter, the machine performs its function in all phases, from 2007, the year which it has planted into service. It should be added that in the dead times, or when it is necessary, should also drain the varnishing sludge from the cabins tanks. The customer buy a tubular membrane spare approximately every two years. The pump goes hand in hand to various operators for their service, without problems, while always ensuring a ready effective operation, removing sludge ,at low cost.

Suction floating sludge and supernatants from coolants.

supernatants and floating sludge pumpRemove supernatants and floating sludge.

Purpose of application, floating sludge and supernatant suction. A company specialized in the manufacturing of stainless steel makes use during the working processes of cooling lubricant that is collected in an underground tank. The cooling lubricant is constantly subjected to cleaning cycles and regeneration in order to eliminate the contaminants collected during use in the manufacturing processes. The perfect cleaning of the cooling lubricant is necessary in order to obtain levels of surface finishing of metal products according to the standards demanded by the manufacturer. In many cases, the metal surfaces are finished with mirror polishing.
One of the various problems linked to the treatment of lubrofrigerante is the elimination of the supernatant and floating sludge or any agglomerated formations that form and stationed on the free surface in the tanks, the semisolid consistency of these formations puts in crisis the treatment plant of the cooling lubricant clogs pumps and valve systems.
It is advisable to remove the formations supernatants possibly in the moment of maximum consistency and directly from the surface of the liquid in order to be able to eliminate the most contaminated.
For this purpose have been arranged a Pump Hose Carrier HCP 2.5 equipped with a special filter Skimmer equipped with an overflow of collection able to float on the surface of the fluid.
During the cleaning step, the spillway is located a few millimeters below the free surface and collects in its interior the supernatants and the floating sludges substances that precipitate due to gravity, the action of the pump removes these substances evacuandole externally in a bag filter.
The Pump Hose Carrier is a machine perfectly suited to this purpose just for its remarkable suction capacity and the possibility of operating with solid substances of considerable size. No one of different kind of pumps previous used have enabled that company to achieve the efficiency of the Pump Hose Carrier. Since four years that the HCP pump 2.5 performs this service, and it has not requested any maintenance intervention , the tubular membrane is still that of first installation. We do not think it is necessary to add other things.

Hose Carrier Pump for suction of stone and marble working sludge.

hcp 50 base

A small company had the problem of  intermittent sludge disposal  which settle during the various steps of the marble and stone working. The fluids are collected in suitable unground tanks buried, placed in different areas of the plant. The water required to the machining process obviously is  recycled, , after a certain period of tranquillity, solid substances in suspension precipitate separating from the water. The latter is recovered and restarted to the processing cycle.

The company had to carry out the operations of suction with submersible pumps equipped with sealing systems based on mechanical seals in Silicon Carbide. Despite this important characteristic, the pumps had a duration unsatisfactory, failures to the sealing system appeared after 8 -10 months of operation. The first time the pumps were repaired, it was subsequently adopted the habit to replace them ex-novo, choosing in the market “sacrificial” pumps  among the less expensive. In a few years the pumps destroyed and replaced have become too many.

Probably the submersible pumps used have done their job as best as possible. But we know that the liquid mixture which had to deal was composed of water and dust generated by the cut with diamond tools. As far as a submersible pump can be adapted to the required work, operating with similarly liquid abrasive mixtures  , there is no mechanical seal able to resist a time to meet the expectations of the user. The failure of the mechanical seal caused the flooding of the electric motor causing the “burning”.

Of course the submersible pumps,  suffered the effect of the sedimentation of the deposited mud. in the course of time, frequent failures were generated. “Desperation” forced company to use the first pump available to replace the previous unusable, often with new one found on market but totally unsuitable for.

By purchasing a Hose Carrier HCP 5.0, this company has been able to solve two problems with one pump alone. The recovery of the limpid waters (or almost) in complete safety and with great easiness by moving the pump or the only suction hose on the various tanks. Occasionally one or two times per month with the same pump retrieving the sludge thicker from the bottom of the tanks to send them to the appropriate bag filters for subsequent disposal.

Pumps Hose Carrier and sewage electroplating sludge.

The object of application: Aspiration from tanks of wastewater with suspensions resulting from electroplating and galvanic processes.

pumps for electroplating and galvanic wastewater

The company has the need to aspirate from underground tanks various wastewaters arising from their production process. These fluids in addition to maintaining a variable chemical aggressiveness  (but always consistent), are also characterized by the presence of metallic particles accumulated during the various manufacturing processes. In the past were used pumps of various types, centrifuges, pneumatic membrane also submersibles. No pump previously used, has never solved the problem. For one reason or another, when you had the need to pump out some decanting, the pump designed was broken, does not prime, clog, worked well until the time but not now. It should be keep in mind that the nature of the fluid, as well as corrosive due to presence chemicals necessary to pre-treatment, also has the metal micro deposits.During the electroplating operation , the preparation of the products to be treated also provides cleaning cycles with acids and alkalines fluids that serve to improve the quality of the galvanic final treatment. In these baths that focuses a good part of the metallic particles. The combination of chemical corrosion and metal abrasion , creates a wastewater mix very damaging for the pumps, see why:

centrifugal pumps have their weak point in the system hydraulic sealing, constituted by the mechanical seal or rubber rings. The sealing system is resistant to chemical corrosion, but not against abrasion. After indefinitely time, but always too short the sealing system yields and the pump fluid releases can attack components not protected against contact of electroplating aggressive liquids.

The centrifugal pump as well, must be used below the level of the liquid to run correctly, poorly adaptations of a general service centrifugal pump is not a good choice. Also is not suitable for fluids transfer of  high viscosity media as sludge is.

But the sludge is generated, and must be removed in some way. The centrifugal pumps exist also in version self-priming, and are much more suitable to treat galvanic wastewater with suspensions or slurries dissolved.

The times of priming of a self-priming pump are long sometimes up to 15-20 minutes, if the pump takes air suction for some unfortunate reason, the pump must be re-primed, with consequent waste of time. When the levels in the tanks are minimal this phenomenon is guaranteed.

The centrifugal pumps run fast (2800 revolutions per minute) the sealing organs responsible to the barrier of the liquid, suffer for this reason, a strong abrasion occur due to the action of the rotation speed mixed to presence of particulate abrasive metal. In a relatively short time the pump loses its suction capacity and it will be necessary to set in on maintenance of the pump. The pump  must be completely removed to replace the sealing device, often this type of intervention is carried out by specific repairers in external workshops, this operation is not economically insignificant.

Let us come to the double diaphragms pneumatic pumps , cost perhaps less than all of the other, but beware, if you accept the cost of compressed air handling (considerable on balance).

The limited cost of purchase in relation to other pumps, attracts a lot. Diaphragm Pumps work quite well, better of centrifuges.

The limit in these pumps consists in the fact that there is a valves system to operate, especially in the suction phase and priming, all work fine in the presence of normal fluids. The situation changes in presence of wastewater with solids. The valve system no longer provides a linear operation, when the valve does not work in a perfect way the pump loses the ability to prime and must be re-primed again. Are rather noisy even if this is a problem. The real problem is absence of preventive maintenance, when diaphragm breaks, the the galvanic aggressive fluids spill out into the distribution system creating damage such as to have to replace it completely.

A solution for electroplating and galvanic wastewater, the peristaltic pump Hose Carrier.

A few years ago that company purchased a HCP 35 peristaltic pump, always in use, without too many concerns , even for reasons different from original needs . Once every year and a half, one tubular membrane is purchased and replaced internally at low costs.
